In 1982 Chuck and Joyce opened a 1,400 square foot magic shop which
6 months later was being financially supported by a singing chicken
(Joyce) delivering balloons and a fabulous magician (Chuck) performing
at local events! The following year they attended The 1st Balloon
and Singing Telegram Convention (the beginning of IBAC) where they
became part of an incredible knowledge sharing industry. Their balloon
business exploded!
In 1985 they moved into a 5,400 square foot location across the
street, which was expanded to 9,600 square feet 4 years later. In
1994 they purchased and renovated a 14,000 square foot former car
dealership building in Homewood, Il which is 30 miles south of downtown
Chicago and is the current home of Chucks House of Magic.
They attribute their magical success to hard work, long
hours and an supportive industry of friends over the last 20 years.
They look forward to the balloon creations they will conjure
up and install at events throughout the Chicagoland area for
years to come.
In 1986, The Balloon and Singing Telegram Convention was produced
by a new group of three business owners. Chucks House of Magic
(Chuck & Joyce) joined hands with The Balloon Lady (Marie Mandoli
& Don Cheeseman) in San Francisco and Ballooney Tunes (Rocky
Toomey & Jamie Jeffries) in Honolulu. This group expanded the
education of the industry with the strong support of Pioneer Balloon
Company and many other industry related companies, including Conwin
Carbonic. Although Chuck & Joyce turned over their producer
status to Balloons N Such (Jay Erlandson & Lana) years
later, they have remained staunch supporters of IBAC. Over the seventeen
years Chuck has taught classes at IBAC and other seminars around
the country. Joyce has continued her involvement by officiating
at the competitions held at the annual IBAC in Chicago in March.
