The Great British Balloon Company bought their first Dual Split-Second
Sizer way back in 1994,one of the first in England, and had to be
sent over from America. This Dual Sizer, named "BABY,"
was bought for the first big project for which 40 Squaddies and three
professional balloon artists had to inflate over 30,000 balloons
from 20,000 two" balloons turned into a wall to a 25 ft Aeroplane.
“Baby" has now been joined by a 2nd Dual Split-Second
Sizer, a digital Dual Split-Second Sizer, and a Duplicator 2.
The Great British Balloon Company have won numerous international
awards including European Designer of the Year. This March in Florence
they beat a host of other world class designers to become World
Master Champions, and most recently were named International Designer
of the Year at IBAC 2004 in Anaheim, CA.
The winning sculpture entitled "L'ESSENZIALE" (meaning
‘the essentials’) was constructed from 350 mainly fuchsia
and gold balloons and took twenty hours to complete. The Great British
Balloon Company owners and designers, Peggy Butland and John Preston
said, “ We took our inspiration from looking at many different
shoes and designers”. When asked why they decided to design
a shoe sculpture Peggy shrugged and replied “I like shoes”
and who was her favourite designer?, “It’s difficult,
but I particularly like Monolo Blahnik”.
The Great British Balloon Company having been going ten years and
have come up with many innovative balloon designs from; A twelve
foot high Lobster in fishnets, a cello, harp and drum with musical
notes playing a violin and a treble cleft as the conductor, to Darth
Vader and giant bumble bee.
