| The bringing together of Edelgard O'Kelly’s
natural creative fashion sense and Sean O'Kelly’s experience
from working in his family’s Party Shop has proven to be a
very productive combination.
After working for 10 years in their retail party business in 1994
they decided to relocate to a home office where they now concentrate
mainly on the designing and installation of specialty function and
display décor.
Often working as a two-person team they now specialize in theme
sculptures and centre-pieces.
BALLOON DÉCOR Australia, know the professional advantage
of having the automated equipment.
Now with 21 years of creative decor behind them ET (Edelgard) &
Sean have built BALLOON DÉCOR a long list of professional
credits. Widely experienced in drops, releases, sculptures, centre-pieces
and theme décor they often find themselves on-site inflating
thousands of balloons at a time.
“Back in the old days all the equipment we had to use was
an air-blower and holy-box” says Sean.
“As we began to get bigger jobs the workload got more demanding.
We often needed to have crews of 5-6 to complete most decorations”
said Sean. “ Being a home-based business this meant that these
additional crew members were usually casual workers who sometimes
earned more than we did. We knew that if we were going to make any
real money we needed to reduce the size of your crews while still
maintaining our production level.”
They knew that working with a limited crew meant that they needed
to find a new way to enable them to consistently operate on-site
in a fast, efficient and professional manner. “It didn’t
take long for us to realize that the digital sizing capabilities
of our Conwin equipment now meant that we could now tackle everything
from the simplest to the most challenging tasks with confidence
and efficiency” said Sean. “ I build and write about
a lot of air-filled sculptures and décor so my Precision
Air inflator is great help for a repeating and recording the many
variations in inflation sizes.”
With the need for regularly requiring large inflation crews almost
non-existent Balloon Décor are now making better profit margins
and have even reduced the on-site workload. “We often joke
with one our past crew members that she was replaced by a blue machine
that never needs to break for lunch.” said ET. “The
speed and precision of our Conwin equipment also means that we save
hundreds of dollars by not having to hire and train new staff which
means we not only make more money but we can even reduce the cost
for the customer.”
Although Conwin's inflating equipment is unsurpassed Balloon Décor
also make good use of the additional equipment. “ The Cylinder
Trolley with it’s attachable table, accessories holder and
the ability to lay down as a flat-bed trolley has meant that we
can move-in and set up almost anywhere with ease. With the ease
of moving our work station around the room from table to table has
saved a lot of unnecessary ‘leg-work’ walking around
large set-ups” says Sean.
Apart form their varied collection of function decorations and
specialty sculptures and centre-pieces both ET and Sean are noted
presenters and designers who have their artistic creations regularly
featured in catalogues and instruction sheets that are distributed
around the word.
Edelgard has recently been appointed as a Presenter at the Australian
Balloon Convention being held in Sydney in 2005.
