Spotlight Artist: Chuck & Joyce Gruberman

“Conwin has provided research, knowledge, service and product reliability to the balloon industry which has helped our business stay on the cutting edge. Conwin products are an integral ingredient in every event we decorate and every balloon bouquet we sell in our store.”

In 1982, Chuck and Joyce opened a magic/costume shop which 6 months later featured a singing chicken (Joyce) delivering balloons and a fabulous magician (Chuck) performing at local events. The following year they attended The 1st Balloon and Singing Telegram Convention in Edmonton, Canada where they became part of an incredible knowledge sharing industry. Their balloon business exploded!
In 1986, a new group of business owners, Chuck’s House of Magic (Chuck & Joyce), The Balloon Lady (Marie Mandoli & Don Cheeseman, San Francisco) and Ballooney Tunes (Rocky Toomey & Jamie Jeffries, Honolulu) joined hands to produce The Balloon and Singing Telegram Convention. This group then renamed it the International Balloon Arts Convention (IBAC) and expanded the education of the industry with the strong support of Pioneer Balloon Company and many other industry related companies, including Conwin Carbonic. Although Chuck & Joyce turned over their producer status to Balloons ’N Such (Jay & Lana Erlandson, Columbus, Ohio) many years later, they remained staunch supporters and on staff at IBAC. Chuck has taught classes at IBAC and other seminars around the country and Joyce officiated at the competitions held at IBAC and once again, in 2010 at the World Balloon Convention (WBC) in Dallas.
In 2007, Chuck retired and handed over his business responsibilities to their son, Garrett. Garrett was 6 months old when Chuck’s House of Magic began . . . so he has lived his entire life surrounded by balloons! Garrett was on staff at IBAC for many years and in 2010 was a staff member at the World Balloon Convention (WBC). Garrett is now the creative force behind the balloon business at Chuck’s House of Magic.
The Gruberman family attributes their success over the last 28 years to great industry products, hard work, long hours and a vast circle of inspiring industry friends. They look forward to the many balloon designs they will create and install at events for years to come!
